How metal parts are protected from rust and damage and packed to clear customs — so a clean part leaves the shop and arrives the same way.
Metal parts face two threats in transit: corrosion from humidity and damage from movement. Good export packing addresses both, and uses compliant wood so the shipment is not held at the border.
Corrosion protection
- Rust-preventive oil or VCI film on bare steel and machined surfaces.
- Desiccant inside sealed or barrier packaging for sea freight.
- Stainless and aluminum need less, but are still wrapped to prevent scratching.
Protection & crating
| Element | Purpose |
|---|
| Foam / dividers | Stop part-to-part contact damage |
| Bracing / blocking | Prevent movement inside the crate |
| Plywood crate | Protect heavy or sharp parts |
| ISPM-15 wood | Heat-treated/fumigated, stamped — clears customs |
| Pallet | Forklift handling, container stacking |
Shipping
Sea freight is the default for heavy metal volume; confirm crate dimensions and weight for container loading. This packing applies to the machined and fabricated parts we ship — and to machinery, which is braced and crated the same way.
Frequently asked questions
How do you stop metal parts rusting in transit?
Bare steel is protected with rust-preventive oil or VCI (vapor corrosion inhibitor) film, plus desiccant in sealed packaging. Sea freight is humid, so corrosion protection is specified, not optional.
What is ISPM-15 and why does it matter?
ISPM-15 is the international standard requiring wood packaging (crates, pallets) to be heat-treated or fumigated and stamped. Non-compliant wood can be rejected or destroyed at the destination port.
How are heavy metal parts packed?
Parts are separated with foam or dividers to prevent contact damage, secured against movement, then crated or palletized. Heavy or sharp parts get reinforced plywood crates braced to the pallet.
Sea or air freight for metal parts?
Sea is far cheaper for heavy metal and the default for volume; air suits urgent or low-weight shipments. Pack and corrosion-protect for the longer transit time of sea freight.
